Improving Social Standards in Asian Production Facilities
The WE (Worldwide Enhancement of Social Standards) Project is a pilot project dedicated to the improvement of working conditions in Asian production facilities. The project features an innovative approach towards improving social standards: It emphasizes the need for effective in-house dialogue and workplace cooperation between managers and workers within production facilities. Besides, it provides a platform for exchange between retailers, importers and suppliers. After the end of the pilot phase, the qualification concept will be opened to other trading companies and production facilities in order to scale-up the approach. The project’s objective: to achieve significant progress regarding working conditions in Asian production facilities. In addition, it promotes local training organizations with the aim of establishing a long-term training offer on social standards.
This Public-Private Partnership (PPP) was initiated by the retailer Tchibo and the developing agency Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ) GmbH. It is co-financed by the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The joint project runs from September 2007 to August 2010 and is currently being carried out with 40 suppliers in Bangladesh, China and Thailand manufacturing consumer goods such as textiles, kitchenware, jewellery and decorative articles. TAOS Network is one out of 13 training
organizations in Asia that support the implementation of the WE-project with our training services.
